Chapter 21

Luke was rather surprised to find out that the Fendral Statue did exist, though it seemed there was an extreme obstacle in front of them: Windmaw. A Primal standing in the way of helping Orna get to her healing. This was not good. Not in the least.

Alamas was an open book. He spoke clearly and frankly about many subjects and Luke was grateful that the man did not hold back when sharing the history of the runeknights. He was rather curious about the headquarters and the ancient order of Eternal Defense but there was no way in hell he was going to try and visit it. Windmaw sounded absolutely terrifying and Luke was far from being able to handle a Primal at his current level.

There was a silver lining to making this trip, however. When Luke asked if Alamas would be willing to give a magical item for their endeavors, the man agreed without hesitation. He would need to do some searching but would gladly hand over something to help Luke in his journey.

The pair headed up out of the basement to check on the others. Alamas was forthcoming with Luke but as soon as he was in the company of others, he was stern and silent. Before Orna could pepper him with questions, Luke took her to a separate room, where he could tell her the bad news.

“You might want to sit down,” Luke said, pointing to the dining room chairs. Orna complied, sitting at the table and folding her hands together.

Luke sank down across her and sighed heavily. “So, I’ve got bad news. The statue does exist. It can heal sickness and disease. But there is something terrible in the way.”

“It’s real!” Orna cried, clasping her hand to her neck. Tears welled up in her eyes. “I knew it! You were a doubter, Luke, but I never gave up hope. Not once.”

“Well, that’s the problem. Even though it is real, it’s inaccessible. There is a very powerful monster standing in the way. A Primal, one of the six that were created to oversee each region. You may have seen me kill monsters before but this is not the same. It’s a gigantic beast, a terrible creature that is well out of range of what I can fight. So, despite the existence of the statue…there’s just no way you can get to it.”

Orna blinked a few times as she processed this information. “You’re saying there’s a creature in the way?”

“Not just a mere creature, a real powerful entity. Gigantic too, from what I’ve been told,” Luke replied, sighing heavily. “I’m so sorry, Orna.”

The woman straightened up and folded her hands on the table. A look of determination came across her face. “Luke, sorry isn’t good enough. I came this far. I followed the trail, I found the wizard. I’m a stone’s throw away from a cure for my illness and some big monster isn’t going to stop me. I’m going to find it. I will be healed.”

Luke grimaced. “Look, you’re not going to survive.
